School from 1875 + new building on the Oder · Major Architekci

Architecture and design

Boulevard Drobnera Residence was created by combining two eras: a 19th-century school building whose brick façade still adorns the front, and a modern apartment building facing the Oder. The design is by the Wrocław studio Major Architekci.

History of the building

The school from 1875

The building at Drobnera 7 was erected in 1875 to a design by Johann Robert Mende. For decades it served education - it housed an elementary school and a higher school of artistic crafts. After careful renovation, the original brick façade still adorns the front elevation and remains the most recognizable feature of the building.

A dialogue of two eras

A new building facing the river

On the Oder side, right next to greenery, a modern apartment building was erected, harmoniously fitted into the form of the former school. The inclined façade facing the river softens the urban scale and opens the space to greenery - this is where most of the loggias were planned. Floor-to-ceiling glazing lets you enjoy the view of the city.

“Two different contexts - the street-front development of Nadodrze and the historic school building - have been joined through an unexpected form of the buildings.”

Distinctive design

The apartment interiors were designed with attention to detail: spaciousness, comfort and natural light. Muted wall and floor tones form a backdrop for expressive furniture and decor inspired by contemporary art. Every element is chosen not only to please the eye, but also to tell a story.

A journey through colors, textures and stories

The interiors are completed by unique RugRiders rugs - avant-garde works of applied art that have travelled from the farthest corners of the world. Their bold colours, rich textures and individual stories create an aesthetic and cultural context that suits the character of the apartments.
